The National Curriculum outlines the body of knowledge and skills that every child should learn at each stage of their schooling. Schools then incorporate the National Curriculum within their own curriculum and publish this.

The requirements of the 2014 Primary National Curriculum are ambitious, challenging and advocate a deeper approach to teaching and learning across all subject areas.

Deeper learning expects every child to:

• KNOW the curriculum knowledge and skills
• USE the curriculum knowledge and skills
• and to PROVE that they can apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts, giving reasoned responses about what they have done; this goes beyond showing their working out.
